Annalise Rust (Psychologist, Ministry of Family, Culture, Church and Gender Equality, Greenland) A Greenlandish Children’s House. Pædagogisk Psykologisk Tidsskrift, 2011, Vol.48, 6, 487-497. It is widely believed that the number of sexual assaults in Greenland is large compared to findings from Europe and USA. The few studies that have been made in sexual assault and abuse in Greenland indicate that up to one third of the whole population of 56.000 have experienced sexual assault during childhood. The government of Greenland has given a high priority to improve the practice and strategies in cases of sexual abuse by establishing a national coherent examination-, treatment- and knowledge centre, inspired by the Nordic Children’s House-model. The National Greenlandic Children’s House opened in August 2011 in the capital city of Nuuk, but the service is extended to all four municipalities of Greenland. The article describes the fundamental ideas and contents of the model and how the model can be tailored to the special needs of Greenland: A very large country with a sparse population, diversified in culture and language. – Annalise Rust

Sørensen, Hanne, Værum (Lecturer at VIA University College Peter Sabroe) The Applicability of ECERS-R.  Pædagogisk Psykologisk  Tidsskrift, 2011, Vol.48, 6, 498-538.  This paper discusses the use of a particular method for a
particular methodology for evaluating conditions for the physical activities of 5-6 year olds in a number of Danish preschools. Three sports preschools and 40 mainstream preschools participated in the study. Employing this methodology led to all of the preschools achieving a rating of 6.0-6.75 on a scale from 1-7 and being judged as
offering good to excellent conditions for children’s physical activities. The paper concludes that ECERS-R is a useful method for evaluating Danish preschools, although two points must be taken into due consideration: the quite narrow margin between the highest and lowest rated preschools, and the fact that ECERS-R schools put greater emphasis on preparatory school activities and learning than is generally the case in Danish preschools. Further research is necessary in order to evaluate how these conditions affect the children’s health, well-being and development. – Hanne Værum Sørensen

Linde; Kasper, Østergaard og Elholm; Nynne, Pedersen (Psychologists). To Wish, Dare, and be Able To – A Model of Counseling. Pædagogisk Psykologisk Tidsskrift, 2011, Vol.48,6, 540-552.   This article presents a three-parted counseling model based on anonymous counseling with youths who are victims of sexual abuse. The model illustrates how counseling can be seen as a process that aims at building the person’s readiness to act with the aim of stopping the
abuse. The three-part model describes three degrees of readiness to act consisting of the young person’s experience of wishing, daring and being able to act with the aim of stopping the abuse. The model can be used to assess the young person’s current position in the process and at the same time provides a direction for the counseling with the person. – Kasper Østergaard Linde og Nynne Pedersen Elholm

Staunæs, Dorte (Department of Learning. Research Programme in Organisation and Learning, University of Aahus) A sensitive job: Management of Counseling in an Inclusice School. Pædagogisk Psykologisk Tidsskrift, 2011, Vol.48, 6, 553-559. PPC-managers by definition face a dilemma; to enable staff to be creative and think out of the box within a fixed organizational framework. To be successful, this type of management must be exercised with an eye to not just the financial bottom line, but also to the ‘economy of affects and feelings’ that emerge when the self-interpretation of individuals and professionals is challenged. Therefore PPC-managers must call on all the pedagogical-psychological resources and accept PPC-management as a sensitive job. So even if this is a challenge for the pedagogical-psychological professional, the pedagogical-psychological expertise might be necessary at a new level, that of management, and  in the shape of what we might call management of potentiality.

Bostrøm, Lene (Ph.D,  Department of Education, Mid Sweden University). The Learning Styles of Pupils Compared to Those of Teachers.  Pædagogisk Psykologisk Tidsskrift, 2011, Vol.48, 6, 560-580. This article explores teachers’ and students’ learning styles profiles at the two major orientations (vocational and academic programs) in secondary
high school in Denmark. The study involved 30 secondary school teachers and 152 high school students. The learning styles assessment PEPS was used to identify 20 different traits. Five groups were compared and analyzed by using F-test and analysis of variance, ANOVA. The statistical analysis showed that the teachers have a greater need for warm temperature, and are more conformity seeking compared with the students. The students have more need for structure, are more group-oriented, are more tactile, need more intake and movement and are more alert in the afternoon, compared with the teachers. The results are of value for people involved in the planning of teacher education, practicing teachers and students themselves. It is a critical skill for teachers to understand their own teaching style and students’ learning styles in the mission ‘a school for all’. The results indicate the need for expanded educational strategies and an in-depth didactic discussion of the practical activities. – Lena Boström
